What is a Massively Multiplayer Online Game?
Massively Multiplayer Online Games, or MMO's, are games that are played online with other people. The game servers are designed to support hundreds to thousands of players at a time. Goals will vary, but generally include going on quests, or adventures; killing monsters; collecting treasure; and leveling your character up.

This is an example of the quest text that will pop up when speaking with a quest giving character. The quest text will say where to go and what needs to be done upon arrival. It will also show the reward that will be given for completing the quest. This Screen shot is also from World of Warcraft.

This screen shot from World of Warcraft demonstrates how the game looks. In the top left corner is a representation of the player's character. It shows how much health and magic the player has as well as showing the players level. In this case the player is at level 4. The text in the bottom left of the screen is called the chat box. Here the player can communicate with the other players in the world. Players are not limited to text communication however. The top right of the screen contains what is known as the mini map. It is a small representation of the area around the player. The purple bar running near the bottom of the screen is the experience, or XP, bar. When the purple moves all the way across to the right side of the screen then the player will reach a new level. Finally, the small icons at the bottom of the screen are the actions the player can take. The first one (the mallet) is an attack, and the next two are spells the player can cast.
